ABC famously (or infamously, depending on your point of view) greenlit and actually aired a new sitcom based on those laughable, lovable (or really annoying, again depending on your POV) cavemen from the Geico commercials. Not to be out-done, CBS has seen ABC's bet and raised them by greenlighting a new sitcom based on the YouTube series, We Need Girlfriends.
I realize that YouTube is like, SO cool right now, and that people can waste entire work days watching content on their site. I'm a bit of a fan myself, but do I lose cool points for admitting that I've never heard of this "show"?
I guess the idea is not quite so ludicrous, because even though the web series has only been on for eleven installments, it averages 700,000 hits per episode. Darren Star (Sex and the City) will serve as executive producer for the new show for CBS.

Since I know nothing about Girlfriends, I'm going to rely on a snippet from a review by Ben Marshall
"This independently-made sitcom follows the lives and extremely unfortunate loves of a trio of socially dysfunctional bozos who refer to women as squirrels, do just about anything to hurt and humiliate one another, and generally try their best to prove that feminism was something that happened to other people.
Though not quite as funny as it hopes to be, it does have moments of genuine inventiveness and wit. In the 80s, there was much talk about the comedy of hate (Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, Andrew 'Dice' Clay etc).
Today, in the wake of The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Peep Show, there is the comedy of embarrassment. We Need Girlfriends manages, mostly successfully, to bridge that gap."
