JoBlo is reporting that Hayden Christensen will play the lead role in the upcoming film version of William Gibson’s cyberpunk classic Neuromancer.

I’ve never read this seminal sci-fi classic. I tried a few times and found it too dense, but as a geek who hated the Star Wars prequels and Christensen’s role in ruining them, this news alarms me. I’m aware of this book’s role in defining a lot of genre standards for cyberpunk sci-fi, and the prospect of another drony-voiced Christensen performance at its center depresses me.

Joseph Kahn (Torque) will direct.
