No surprise here: After the success of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot, New Line Cinema will jump-start its first great franchise: A Nightmare on Elm Street.

It'll be based on the original 1984 film and will restart the series chronology.

This announcement comes during the same year of a Friday the 13th remake-reboot-thingy, which will be directed by Marcus Nispel (who helmed the Texas Chainsaw remake).

There's no word on casting for the new flick, though if I had to recast Freddy Kreuger, you know who I'd pick?

Johnny Depp.
