Playwright and lyricist Stephen Cole finally figured out that French fries are pomme frites.
Cole is working on a musical version of the completely awesome sci-fi flick Time After Time. If you can't remember Time After Time, shame on you. Here's the pitch:
H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) was actually working on a time machine back in Victorian London. One of his closest friends turns out to be Jack the Ripper (David Warner). Warner steals the time machine and flees to our current present day (well, it was the late 70s when the film came out, but close enough). Wells pursues him.
Nicholas Meyer of Star Trek II and VI fame directed it. The line I referenced in my opening sentence comes when Wells eats at McDonald's and realizes that fries are pomme frites. Classic!
I'm not much for musicals, but I'm delighted to see someone paying attention to a great old property like this.
