Wow. Warner Bros. is going to adapt the legendary Manga series Akira into two live-action movies.

According to Variety, each of the movies will be based on three of the comics from the original series. Warners has fast-tracked one of the movies for a summer 2009 release.

Off the top of my head, that means that summer 2009 will include Wolverine, Star Trek and Akira. Rad.

Irishman Ruairi Robinson will direct from a script by Gary Whitta. Robinson will make his feature debut after working in commercials.
