The Ten Most Useless Weapons In Gaming

In video games, not all weapons are created equal. For every BFG 9000 there are a dozen two-shot Derringers. While most gamers today are overwhelmed by the number of useful tools for maiming and destroying, we older gamers remember the dark times when each collectible was a crapshoot. So, without further ado, let’s drop into the much and look at the ten most useless weapons in gaming.

10) Needler, Halo: Combat Evolved

The original Halo was a marvellous revolution for the FPS. The enemies fought with more ferocity, the environments allowed more innovation, and the weapons straight-up kicked ass. There was no better feeling than dropping down onto an unsuspecting Covenant soldier and delivering a spoonful of buckshot straight into their ugly mugs. Even the pistol, with its low-level zoom function, was amazingly useful in taking down the alien population one grunt at a time.

But then there was the Needler.

Now yes, in later instalments of the franchise, this gun actually felt useful. By unloading a stream of explosive shards in the general direction of the enemy, you were guaranteed to at least harass the Covenant to death. But the first game’s variation of the Needler was as useful as nipples on a Batsuit. No matter how many rounds you fired, the enemies just kept coming.

Compared to the powerful plasma weapons and assault rifles, the Needler barely found use in the original game. Still, it wasn’t as if you couldn’t kill an enemy with enough needles. So it just barely makes the list.
