2011 Penthouse Pet of the Year Nikki Benz came to the adult industry from Toronto back in 2003, and since then, she's established and maintained a thriving career in a business that has an extremely high turnover rate. She's stayed as busy in Porn Valley as she is on the dance circuit, all while finding time to appear in the occasional mainstream project over the hill in Hollywood. She was good enough to answer a few questions for our 2012 Sex Week. Let commence the interview!
I’m not sure if there is that perfect secret recipe for longevity in the adult industry. It definitely helps having a bit of luck on your side and making smart decisions. I’m pretty business savvy, however I have made some mistakes on the way to where I am now but that just made me want to go after my career goals that much harder. One of the things that I can say is that I didn’t make myself too available at the beginning of my career, meaning I didn’t start off doing scenes where I’d be required to do everything and anything. I started out filming girl/girl scenes, then moved to boy/girl, and I have always recognized the importance of making appearances at trade shows and feature dancing. I didn’t put all my eggs in the same basket, so to speak.
You're appearing in a mainstream movie called My Trip Back To The Dark Side this year. Can you tell us about your role? It’s a small part. I play a stripper. Talk about typecasting! Totally kidding. It was a really fun experience.
Do you have any more mainstream appearances coming up? Not at the moment. I’m always open to new projects.
How has the response been to your appearances on the FOX Sports web series Cubed? My appearance on Cubed has definitely gotten me a lot of positive feedback. I’m pretty sure I am the only adult star to ever be contracted by Fox. It’s an amazing feeling. It also gained me new fans and cross over recognition from the adult industry. I worked for Fox Sports from 2009 to 2011. It feels great to put that on my resume.
Star Trek or Star Wars -- and why? Comparing Star Trek and Star Wars is like comparing apples to oranges. Both take place in outer space, but I find Star Wars to be more ground breaking and appealing than Star Trek. It’s a personal preference. Just a side note, currently the overall box office revenue generated by the Star Wars films has totaled approximately $4.41 billion,[1] making it the third-highest-grossing film series,[2] behind only the Harry Potter and James Bond films. That speaks for itself.
There's always been a connection between the world of geek and the world of porn. CES happens alongside AEE, for example. Do you have any plans to hit Comic-Con? I was at Comic-Con last year promoting Saints Row: The Third video game. It was an amazing experience. I was hired by THQ (video game developer) along with five other Penthouse Pets to be part of their quality assurance team. A lot of Hip Hop, some house and some rock. Dexter is my favorite show. I also like 60 Minutes, Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, South Park, Family Guy, CSI.
Scarface, Goodfellaws, Devil's Advocate, Dark Knight, Avatar, Blow, Casino Benz connects with her fans through a variety of social-media outlets.
