Night Birds :: Born to Die In Suburbia

I have kind of an infatuation with Night Birds because Maimed For The Masses took me by surprise and swept me off my feet. Born to Die In Suburbia has continued the love affair by delivering everything that the EP promised. It is fast, it is rambunctious, it will make you scream along, it is the type of album that turns teenagers into punk rock kids.

Honestly, I don’t know where to begin with this review. I fucking adore this album. It is everything that made me fall in love with punk rock so many years ago and it makes me fall in love again. The music is thrashy, the vocals are super fast and super snotty, and it just makes you long for a pit.

Born to Die in Suburbia is the musical hybrid child of the Dead Kennedys, Youth Brigade, and Screeching Weasel. The fast never stop to take a breath of early Screeching Weasel with all the passion and dissatisfaction of Dead Kennedys, Youth Brigade. There is a restless quality to each of the tracks, one that will crawl under your skin until you are thrashing in a pit or changing the world, no matter which, these tracks will make you do something, anything, you will not be stationary.

Usually here is where I go track by track or pick out some favorites. Not this time, they are all so damned good. Listen to them all, as an album, as you should. There are even two instrumental tracks, that don’t feel out of place at all. I almost feel like I cheated these guys by writing such a short review, but hell what more is there to say, this album is fucking awesome.

Born to Die In Suburbia has perfectly captured the attitude of every punk rock kid who was born and swore he’d die living in his parents suburban dream yet longed to be able to change the world. These guys are the real deal, they will rekindle your jaded ass’s faith in punk rock.
