A Tom Clancy-less Jack Ryan to Return to the Big Screen

Written by: Big Ross, CC2K Staff Writer

Ryan Gosling, who as we all know is greater than Jesus Christ, may be resurrecting the Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan film franchise by stepping into the mortal shoes once filled by the likes of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. has been reporting a series of rumors that Phillip Noyce, director of Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, as much as he has wanted to return to the Ryan character, is getting left out of plans by Paramount to re-launch the CIA analyst.

Here’s the interesting part, so too is Tom Clancy, author of the Jack Ryan novels.

It seems Paramount somehow inked a deal allowing them to make a movie about the character of Jack Ryan, without permission of Clancy. So the planned film, which Gosling is reportedly attached to, will not be based on any of Clancy’s Ryan-centered books (of which there are several that have not been adapted).

If this all seems confusing, that’s because, well, it is. To make things even less clear, it seems Noyce and Ford were both rumored to be involved in the new film, but apparently that’s no longer the case, as it seems Paramount is wanting to continue the portrayal of a younger Jack Ryan established in The Sum of All Fears, albeit with a different actor.

Bottom line: Paramount is developing a new Jack Ryan movie, which may be based on a script by Daniel Pyne – titled By Any Means Necessary – about a cop who turns to a jailed mobster for insider information in order to stop a terrorist attack, and Ryan Gosling may be the titular character.
