OK. So this isn’t exactly breaking news, but Gerard Butler (300) has confirmed he will be voicing the main character in the comic-within-a-comic, Tales of the Black Freighter.

It goes without saying this means we finally have confirmation this element of Alan Moore’s Watchmen will not be left on the cutting room floor. That doesn’t mean you’re going to see it when Zack Snyder’s adaptation premieres in theaters.

Rather you’ll have to wait until they release the Super-Ultimate Director’s Cut version on DVD. Which will undoubtedly become available after they release the no-frills version on DVD, just so they can milk a few extra dollars out of us geeks. But I digress. If you’re wondering since I said Butler is going to be voicing the character, if that means you’re going to get to see him, no. Butler also told Empire Online that the project is being planned "in the style of a Japanese anime and I’m totally stoked".

Butler added:

"The little bits that have been added define it so much more. It’s very dark and there’s just something so descriptive and scary. It’s this descent into madness but explained in such a sane way that you totally feel it yourself. By the end, my heart was pumping!"
