Veteran horrormeister Wes Craven is set to direct 25/8, the first original script he’s written since way back in ’94 with Wes Craven’s New Nightmare.

Variety is reporting Rogue Pictures has optioned the proposed film, described by Craven as centering on “a signature villain, a serial killer who turns up 15 years after his purported death, to kill the seven children born on that fateful night.”

Gee, does that sound familiar to anyone? Does it perhaps remind you of a certain movie about a serial killer who takes revenge on the children of the people who threw him in a furnace and set it for “extra crispy”? But hey, if he considers it a completely original script, who am I to argue?

Craven went on to say that, "It’s more a thriller than slasher film, and revolves around a young kid with a very dark past involving his family and his father.”

The director of such horror classics as The Last House on the Left, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream has also helmed such clunkers as Vampire in Brooklyn and Cursed. We’ll have to wait to see into which category 25/8 goes.
