And while we here at CC2K like to provide as many reviews as our limited numbers can provide, there is always one book that is the cream of the crop. Comics are expensive, and so is the gas to get to the shop. So that's why we've started giving you the one, absolutely unmissable book every week. As a side bar, i'll start by getting you up to date: James Robinson and Mauro Cascioli's had a Justice League mini-series called CRY FOR JUSTICE, in it, a villain by the name of Prometheus planted bombs all across America. Prometheus attacked the Justice League in their own head quarters, he got captured, but not before maiming Red Arrow (ripping his arm off) and setting off a giant bomb in Green Arrow's Star City. The bomb destroyed Star City and killed Green Arrow's grandchild (Red Arrow's daughter). The Justice League made a deal with Prometheus by letting setting him free as long as he told them the whereabouts of the other planted bombs. Weeks later Prometheus is hunted down and murdered by Green Arrow. Now Green Arrow is hunting down other villains involved with Prometheus's plans while out running his friends(Green Lantern, Flash, and his wife Black Canary), whom are either trying to talk sense into Ollie and/or arrest him for murder.
"Star City will never suffer at the hands of Prometheus again. I made sure of that by putting an arrow right between his eyes. But Prometheus wasn't working alone. A triggerman named the Electrocutioner. He flipped the switch that brought Star City to it's Knees. He's out there somewhere-but he can't hide forever. Nothing's going to stop me from making him pay the same way Prometheus did." – Green Arrow
It's interesting to see Denny O'Neils' Green Arrow mature during all these years. He was always a bit of an ass, arrogant, self-centered, but at the end of the day he did what was right and always had his voice heard. He's one of D.C.'s few "human" superheroes that stood out from the shadow's of Supermen and after this tragedy he's becoming DC's answer to Marvel's Punisher. Can you blame him? His city is destroyed, they killed his 3 year old grand daughter. I would do the same thing I think, hunt those bastards down! This is really a fresh take for this character.
The only thing i'm not a fan of in this issue is J.T. Krul's dialogue, feels a little too much like "Stan Lee" wrote it. Look at the top quotation; see what I mean? However, I like his plot and his delivery, he gave a great surprise at the end of this issue by having a certain sidekick stay true to GA. It's a those cool little twists that keep Green Arrow fresh. He's unlike Supes or Bats and a little more balls to the wall. Federico Dallocchio artwork has always been fantastic and who can complain. He has this Greg Land take to his art, but unlike Land, Dallocchio can actually draw. Well i'm excited for next's month issue… A green comic for a green holiday! Happy St.Pats.
