Dark Horizons is reporting that Chris Pine is officially in as Capt. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. Apparently, the 27-year-old actor has opted out of appearing in an upcoming adaptation of James Ellroy's White Jazz to play Kirk.

I remember Pine from Smokin' Aces as one of the Tremor brothers. I enjoyed his performance in that, and I hope he (and the rest of this excellent cast) discovers this role for himself. The way I look at it, this is like someone has finally let another actor play Hamlet after Richard Burbage had left his mark on it.

I'd love to meet James Kirk again.
