David Fincher Has a Thing for Killers

There's another graphic novel that will soon make it's way to the big screen, but this is one who might never have heard of, though I'm sure you've heard of the man who will be behind the camera. David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac) has been announced as director of the planned adaptation of The Killer, a popular French graphic novel that has recently jumped the pond to entertain American readers.

The graphic novel was written by Matz (AKA Alexis Nolent) and illustrated by Luc Jacamon back in 1988, around the time Miller and Moore were doing their ground-breaking work on The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, respectively. The film's script is being written by Allesandro Camon, and it will be distributed by Paramount.

This bestseller is described (I've never read it, much less heard of it before this) as being written in the moody noir style the French are evidently famous for. It follows a highly successful hitman who's long career is beginning to catch up with him. After botching a hit and attracting the attention of a highly competant police detective, this professional killer begins suffering a mental breakdown. "Lost in a world without a moral compass, this is a case study of a man alone, armed to the teeth and slowly losing his mind."

Sounds pretty cool, and with Fincher at the helm, I'm excited!
