Greg Berlanti is set to direct the big-budget movie adaptation of Green Lantern, raising such important questions as:

• Will James Van Der Beek play Green Lantern himself, Hal Jordan?
• Will Joshua Jackson play Jordan's heir apparent, Kyle Rayner?
• Will Katie Holmes play the love interest?
• Will Tom Cruise play Mongol?

In any event, I'm stoked to see GL headed to the big screen at long last, especially given the current state of special effects.

In case you're wondering why I'm giving Berlanti such shit, he was a writer and executive producer on Dawson's Creek. His resume also includes Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers & Sisters, Everwood and Jack & Bobby. His sole directing credit is 2000's The Broken Hearts Club.

More after the jump!

Berlanti will write the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, who is a co-exec producer on Heroes and a writer on Smallville. He also wrote the failed Superman/Batman team-up movie.

I'm delighted to see this project moving forward, naturally, but I'm also curious to see how the growing stable of DC comics franchises fare alongside the fast-tracked Justice League of America movie.
