Stock-car racing legend Dale Earnhardt will have his story told on the big screen.

Production company Red Wagon just cut a deal to make a new biopic about the seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion, who died during the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.

For you non-NASCAR fans out there (which includes me), the Winston Cup is NASCAR's championship trophy, and the Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of stock-car racing – though the winner at Daytona doesn't automatically win the Winston Cup. I think it's awarded based on a point total over the racing season.

Apparently the producing duo have secured the involvement of Earnhardt's widow and his son, Dale Jr.

Earnhardt has one other biopic to his name – 2004's 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story, a made-for-TV movie starring Barry Pepper as Earnhardt.
