Marcus Nispel, the glam torture-porn purveyor who directed the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, will direct a reboot of the Friday the 13th series.

The new movie will ignore the events of the first two movies and instead focus on the most iconic imagery from the series: Jason in a hockey mask killing everything that walks (or boinks) at Camp Crystal Lake. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the script.

What a shame. Wes Craven’s Scream nailed it: One of the most underrated bits of slasher-flick trivia is the identity of the killer in the original Friday the 13th: Jason’s mother.

But maybe Nispel and company are trying to pull a fast one on us. Maybe they’ll reveal at the end of their reboot that Jason and his mother were in cahoots the whole time.

Paging Betsy Palmer!
