It's great casting: Hilary Swank will play famed aviator Amelia Earhart in the upcoming biopic Amelia.

Screenwriter Ron Bass based his script on Susan Butler's book East to the Dawn, Mary Lovell's The Sound of the Wings and Elgin Long's Amelia Earhart: The Mystery Solved.

Mira Nair will direct.

The movie will focus on Earhart's formative years, including her daring nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
