Dr. Gregory House has put a damper on Hugh Laurie's career back in England, the actor said.

The actor told the BBC that his busy schedule on the hit American show has stopped all offers for work across the pond.

"The door slammed behind me, and that's it," he said. "There's a notion that I've sold out."

Pursuing this same theme, Laurie added, "There's a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn't be successful, and reneged on it."

This strikes me as unusual. Certainly there have been lots of British actors to find success in America and on American TV. Did Dominic West run into the same issue because of his work on The Wire? OK, that's not a great example, becasue HBO shows have shorter seasons, but I wonder why Laurie is having this problem?

In any event, Laurie also said that if the show continues being successful, he'll move his family to the states.
