The 80th Annual Academy Awards offered a few surprises, with minor upsets in the visual effects and best actress categories.

Marion Cotillard and The Golden Compass beat out favorites Julie Christie and Transformers for best actress and best visual effects. But for the most part, tradition prevailed, as No Country For Old Men took home the night's two biggest prizes: best picture and best directing.
