Those fine fellows over at Broadway World have gotten their hands on the opening sequence of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s latest collaboration, Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

I’ve got to say, I’m still somewhat baffled by the decision to release this movie on Christmas Day. I’m very intrigued by it and will probably see it over the holidays, but it’s evident, even by the opening credits that this is pretty gruesome fare.

Interesting aside: If you know nothing about the plot of this movie (based on the musical by Steven Sondheim), Burton gives us tantalizing clues and bits of foreshadowing in these credits, much more so than I would have expected.

It’s a pretty great opening, though. Here’s hoping the rest of the film is as good.
