Rocky Marciano is set to get similar treatment afforded to Muhammad Ali (Ali) and James J. Braddock (Cinderella Man). M.E.G.A. Films has acquired the official rights to the legendary heavyweight’s life story and will be bringing it to the big screen.

Marciano’s younger brother gave producer Morris S. Levy and writer Terri Apple never-before-known details and insights into the fighter’s life, in hopes of erasing previous, inaccurate portrayals of Rocky in made-for-television movies.

More details after the jump!
Marciano reigned as heavyweight champion of the world from 1952 to 1956, when he retired. He remains the only heavyweight champion in the history of professional boxing to retire undefeated, with 49 victories and 43 of them by knockout.

Plans for his biopic are to follow Marciano from a young child growing up in Brockton, Mass. throughout his career and to his death in a plane crash in 1969.

Marciano’s legacy lives on to this day, as his name is often near the top of lists of the greatest heavyweight boxers and greatest punchers of all time.
