S.H.I.E.L.D. the Movie?

Written by: Gary M. Kenny, CC2K Comics Editor

Recently in Disney’s D23 magazine, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hints about a few rumored films Marvel has in the works. Marvel’s movie universe is going to be filled with magic, espionage, and kung fu.

Though it’s not shocking that Marvel has announced that it is gearing up its sequels from the soon to be released Thor & Captain America to the 3rd installment of the Iron Man franchise. What is somewhat surprising (manly because it’s been a rumor Sam Jackson started over a year ago) is that Kevin Feige might have envisioned a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, a Black Widow movie, possibly a Hawkeye movie, and a Dr. Strange movie.

“Thor will go off into a new adventure,” says Feige, “and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. — all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined.”

Some say that a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie is a surprising move because they already have a “team” movie The Avengers (opening in May 2012) in the works. You wouldn’t expect another team flick so soon, especially since there are rumored reports that Marvel is in talks with an Iron First movie and thanks to an interview by SuperheroHype a Luke Cage movie. But going back to S.H.I.E.L.D., it almost seems inevitable that this movie is going to be made. Samuel Jackson did sign a 9 picture contract with Marvel Entertainment,  the role Clark Gregg popularized (aka Agent Phil Coulson) and with the edition of Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Scarlet Johanson as Black Widow, and adding in Hawkeye, you basically have a very fun, very high action filmed just waiting to be written. We are going to have to wait and see, but truthfully with Thor & Cap coming out this year i’m in no rush. I feel a big budget action packed pop corn flick staring this secret agency is something Marvel should really consider but lets see how The Avengers does first.
