Jim Windolf over at Vanity Fair has a hypothesis: Shia LaBeouf will take over the Indiana Jones franchise.

You can read the whole piece yourself, but suffice it to say that Windolf managed to get this nugget out of producer Frank Marshall:

"I don't think so. We're all getting too old. We have to hand the torch to somebody else. I don't know who that's going to be."

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas always said that Indy was their take on the James Bond legend. Even Sean Connery once said of Dr. Jones, "He's James Bond, but not as well-dressed."

I love the idea of continuing the Indy franchise with a new lead actor. I just wish it were someone else.

River Phoenix.

In fact, I bet there's a parallel universe where Phoenix took over as Jones in the fourth film, released sometime in the early 90s. And in the sixth film, another young leading man played Indy as a child, and the cycle began anew.

No offense to LeBeouf, but he's no Phoenix.

Also, there's a new teaser poster for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull out, and I could only find a fraction of it, which I used for this piece. Let me know if you can find it!
