Because I can't go two days without writing more about J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek reboot, here's an update:

• Paramount has unveiled a new viral website for the movie at NCC-1701.com. It's a bank of four visual feeds of the work being done on the ship (I think). I've never had the patience for these online viral marketing schemes, so if anyone finds out anything cool from this, please let me know!

• In an interview with IESB, Chris Pine said that he is not emulating William Shatner's performance as Kirk.

"I think the biggest mistake I could ever do would be to try to re-create what Mr. Shatner did. There are certain qualities that Kirk has that are vital for someone who is a leader of men. And those qualities, I definitely wanted to take from what Mr. Shatner did in the original series. But my job is to take something new, to take that and build upon it, really do my own thing. I just feel no pressure when it comes to that."

Thank goodness. When it comes to a performance like this – and I can't think of its exact analogue – I think Pine should approach the role the way Anthony Hopkins approached playing Richard Nixon: Find the person's essence, but make the performance your own.
