The Morning Roundup: Moby Dick remake, Sims Movie, Kurosawa Remakes, New Trailers

This morning we've got news of a Moby Dick "reimagining", remakes of two different Kurosawa projects, new trailers for Revolutionary Road and Bedtime Stories, and more! The guy who directed Wanted is going to be directing a reimagining of Moby Dick. If that credit isn't enough to tell what this movie is going to be like, basically all the stuff that makes the novel a literary classic is going to be dumped in favor of a giant whale's "decimation of other ships prior to its encounter with Ahab's Pequod." Nice.
Though hard to believe, it appears that there are actually plans to make a movie based on The Sims. Here's how producer John Davis described the plot:
"The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid or a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world."
Ya know, I've argued for a long time now that more video games should get adapted into movies. Guess what? The Sims is most definitely not one of them.
Two projects by the venerable Akira Kurosawa are in the works for remakes. Reports are out that his classic Roshomon will be remade and set in contemporary America as Roshomon 2010. Plans are also underway to adapt a screenplay that Kurosawa wrote but never made: The Masque of Black Death.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang helmer Shane Black is going to be directing a spy thriller called Cold Warrior.
In Halo-related gaming news, could Bungie's latest project be Halo 4? IGN reports there's good reason to think so. Also, Ensemble Studios is getting shut down by Microsoft after the release of Halo Wars. Ensemble head Bruce Shelley was "shocked" and "disappointed" at the news, and why not? After all of the success of the Age of Empires series and the promise of Halo Wars, it seems like a reptilian business move.
