What Will Christopher Nolan’s 3rd Batman Movie Look Like?

Rumors about the third installment in Christopher Nolan’s rebooted Batman franchise swirled around the Internet this week. According to the idle chatter, Nolan plans to shoot the entire third film in IMAX format, and that it-girl Megan Fox was set to play Catwoman.

As much as I’d like to see Fox in spandex, most outlets debunked that rumor. Nolan may not have even signed on for a third movie, so he certainly hasn’t started thinking about the script or the characters yet.

But Peter Sciretta over at Slashfilm noted that there’s a pretty good chance that Nolan will shoot his third Batman movie in IMAX, despite the considerable challenges inherent to the format.

“Shooting a dialog scene with an IMAX camera would be a bigger challenge because of the noise of the camera and the short length of the loads and so forth but we got better and better at it, we had a terrific crew, a lot of our camera mounts and things were 35 millimeter they were ones they’re built to withstand enormous abuse, so they can take the weight of a much larger camera,” Nolan said.

That said, all this Batman talk got me wondering: What will Batman 3 look like? I can’t say for sure, but I hope it doesn’t look like The Dark Knight.

That may sound like high blasphemy, but I submit that there could only be one movie done in the style of The Dark Knight because it’s simply too realistic to support the Batman world. Nolan managed to smuggle a great cinematic experiment onscreen in last summer’s blockbuster, but could you imagine the Riddler in that world? Or the Penguin? Or Catwoman? I can’t, and I hope Nolan goes for a more gothic tone and look for his next movie.

And while we’re on the topic, I tried to think of who Nolan would cast as some of the villains. Keep in mind that Nolan tends to go for left-field casting choices like Heath Ledger.

Catwoman: Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies).

The Penguin: Michael Emerson (Ben from Lost).

The Riddler: Guy Pearce (Memento).
