The Morning Roundup: Sucky B.O. Report, SAG Strike Update, Broadway Crumbles, Jack Bauer Wins

This morning we have "sucky" news for Bond fans, scary news about the SAG strike, sad news about Hitchcock's screenwriter, good news about the AMAs, alien news for Buffy aficionados and trailers to sweeten the deal.
It comes as no surprise, Twilight took the box office top honors in the U.S. this weekend with approx. $70 million intake. The sequel for Twilight got green lighted as well.
Quantum of Solace tied with the cute, animated Bolt for second place. Quite embarrassing for Bond really, considering its continued record run at the overseas box office… Who's happy now they didn't release the new Harry Potter on Friday as well?
But since Bond can't crack it in the US, you'll be happy to hear there is lots and lots more Jason Bourne to come our way and Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass just might stick around for it.
Barring any more strikes, that is. And, woe is me, actors, i.e. the SAG, are THAT much closer to a strike. They will actually take a vote on whether to strike or not. No date has been set, but start loading up your TiVo, people, to tide you over just in case.
Jack Bauer though is unimpressed with these news. He was back in force and shape this weekend after 18 months of absence in the 24 movie 24: Redemption, and many people tuned in. Did you?
Meanwhile, Broadway is crumbling under the economic pressure. Curtains fell on Mamet's American Buffalo after only eight performances. And there are plenty more shows that are closing down, follow this link to see which.

More bad news: Legendary screenwriter John Michael Hayes died last Wednesday of natural causes at the age of 89. He was involved in many a Hitchcock production back in the day and nominated for an Oscar for his work on Rear Window.
Some better news: The American Music Awards were handed out this weekend and some of the big winners were Chris Brown, Kanye West and Rihanna. Go here for the complete winners' list.

And Buffy-alum James Marsters landed himself another role after that stint in P.S. I Love You. He will star in an Alien Western. Now that sounds right up his dark alley.
