Welcome back, Commander.

If you followed the storyline of my recent series X-COM Chronicles, then you know the story of the recent reboot of the franchise. An alien invasion puts Earth on the defensive, and only a secret military organization called X-COM stands in the way. The story was more than just cookie-cutter, and the ending felt like the result of strong decisions and capable leadership.

A powerful soldier, imbued with psionic powers, lifts the alien Temple ship into space moments before an artificial black hole rips it apart. Earth is saved, and the hero disappeared into light moments before the ship exploded, so they may still live as well. It was a victory that you knew to be short lived. The final aliens warned of “what’s to come,” implying a threat even greater than the Sectoids and Chrysalids.

Now, in 2015, we will finally get to see that new threat…and fan reaction has been mixed at best.

X-COM 2 has been announced, and the series is going in a very different direction.
